Grains and Carbohydrates and Keto, Oh My

Grain Meme

In a different world where cereal and skim milk with bananas were the normal breakfast of Champions was a Myth? You mean we were not told the truth about what we should and should not eat. What a hypocrisy we have been fed? I remember growing up and we only ate Bunny Bread and it was made right here in my town and smelled so good when we rode by. We did not have whole grain bread, or oat, potato, multi-grain, therefore, we ate white bread. As a young adult, I began to eat Lite White as an option because it contained fewer calories. I was being fooled if I believe the protocol of the Keto diet. Are grains really not good for my health? ...  Read More

Keto Diet on a Budget

Delicious broccoli soup

I must admit that when I first started Keto, I thought I had to have all of the Fancy Keto products to get Amazing results. I was wrong. I do not have a lot of money to spend on items that are not required to succeed in this process. The Ketogenic Diet has become so polarized that “must have” items appear all day long. You do not need exogenuous ketones to get in ketosis. You get these things from what you put in your mouth. If you cut out sugar and carbohydrates, you will get into the metabolic state of Ketosis all on your own.  ...  Read More

Intermittent Fasting with Dr. Berry

Tuscan Garlic Shrimp

I know this can sound like pure torture by not eating for 16 hours, but trust me, it really feels good. I, personally, do Intermittent Fasting every day because I have gotten my body used to it. I started out only skipping breakfast and ended up skipping breakfast and lunch and eating an early supper. I try to do a 16 or 18 hour fast every day, but if I get hungry, I stop the fast and eat. I listen to my body to help me judge what I need to do. No one can tell you the best way for you, because no one is the same. ...  Read More

Bulletproof Coffee Yay or Nay?

Bulletproof Coffee

I have tried bulletproof coffee, but to be totally honest, I just do not like the taste of it. That is probably because I have never been a coffee drinker. It does have benefits because it can bring you more mental clarity and it satiates your hunger if you use it to replace eating breakfast. Bulletproof coffee is made up of caffeinated coffee, 1 tablespoon grass-fed butter, and 1 tablespoon MCT, (medium chain triglycerides), oil or unflavored coconut oil. You mix all of that up in a blender and you will get a frothy concoction that you may or may not like the taste. I tried it for a while but did not like not having a sweetener in my coffee.  ...  Read More

Keto and Electrolytes

vitamins for electrolytes

I have been on the Ketogenic Diet for going on 6 weeks now and I can tell you first-hand the effects that this way of eating as if you do not keep your electrolytes in check.  Last week I had terrible right arm pain and I just did not feel good, ie: sluggish, light headed and anxious.  I had been taking Keto Core vitamins but they gave me heartburn.  So, I drank a large bottle of Smart Water and within minutes my symptoms faded away. If you do not any water with electrolytes, just add pink Himalayan salt to any water and that will work the same. Smart Water is quite expensive so you can rotate between a large bottle of Smart Water and store-brand inexpensive water with vinegar or salt. ...  Read More

Keto Diet and Patience

Breaking Free

I have been on this Keto Diet for 5 weeks now and have lost 15 pounds.  Why do I want to lose more and faster?  Because we always want more.  I want it when I want it and a lot of us have been programmed that way.  It’s hard to live in the moment; always thinking ahead and what ifs? What if I didn’t drink that Diet Coke yesterday?  Would I have lost a pound today?  I don’t know if that is the reason I didn’t lose today.  It could have been the cream cheese or the carrots.  I can wrack my brain all day, instead of just being happy that I have lost 15 pounds.  Logically, it is probably something, as simple as, not pooping for 2 days. ...  Read More

Let’s Start this Keto Diet

Water is so Important

I am back and with awesome news.  I started the Ketogenic Diet on September 9, 2018, and have lost 15 pounds, as of today, October 9, 2018.  I have struggled with it, but I have not cheated and have had to learn the ins and outs of it by doing a lot of research.  It is not a cure-all way to lose weight, but it will work if you work it.  I had to learn what electrolytes I need and ordered KetoCore vitamins from Amazon, which is good for all that ails you.  I also buy water that is infused with electrolytes.  If you do not get in the right vitamins and minerals, you will feel terrible.  You may experience headaches, nausea, dizziness and just an overall feeling of flu-like symptoms.  So, very important to keep your electrolytes in check.  That is the most important thing I cannot emphasize enough. ...  Read More

Ketogenic Diet or Not?

Avocados for Healthy Fat

I don’t mind telling you that I have spent days researching the Keto Plan and it is very confusing.  I see good things and not so good things.  However, I am going to give it a shot.  I will give it my all to see if it is the answer I am craving.  I want to lose weight AND feel good.  Is that even a possibility?  I pray that this is my answer.  I was a skinny kid and did not start gaining weight until my mid-thirties and now I am considered obese.  I am 57 and I want to live a long and healthy life and the rate I have been going I will not.  I have no other choice than to do something to get this excess weight off.  I suffer very badly from depression, so I worry that I may have adverse reactions to my electrolytes being off.  So, right off, I am getting the water with supplements already in them if I continue this journey.  I am preparing myself for all of the things that could happen to my body and my mind.   ...  Read More
